Opened for a steak before Christmas but not all consumed and went missing in the drink fridge.

Found and finished last night with a pizza.  Went down very well.

Note on the bottle suggests cellaring till 2015 -2018.  On the money!!

I believe I might still have one or two left.  Not absolute top drawer but a VERY smooth Clare Valley Shiraz.

Wine is the Next Big Knock Off by the Chinese

Yes, it is true.  The more reputable and mid to upmarket wine houses are preparing to combat "knock offs" by the Chinese.  And it applies to Australian wines as well, not just the exclusive French wine.

It is a bit of an organised racket, according to some recent articles.

So, if visiting China, or some other Asian countries, be careful you or the reseller are not being ripped off......big time.

I enjoy a drop of some of the better red wines, at least in Australia.  I wonder if this stuff is also coming to Australia.  Afterall, some fake designer handbags, electronics and other goods have done so.

Oh, What a Drop!!

Oh what a drop!............Best red wine opened in this household so far in 2011. Outshines a bottle of 1999 Leasingham Bin 61 from a month or two back.

It had lots of Gold Medals, not that these always count from smaller Shows / Exhibitions, but with a Gold at Sydney Royal Easter Show, well...........that is a little different, with some serious competition usually.

Yes, a great bottle of Orlando St Hugo Cabernet Sauvignon, 2001 from Coonawarra, a very well respected terroir in South Australia. Very good drinking to complement a good steak and salad.

Best of all......with careful buying a few years ago and some cellaring –

it cost $27 a bottle..........and..............and...........and ........there are several more.

Current readily available releases [2006 and 2007] of the same wine are round $50 a bottle.

1994 WAS a GOOD Year

Australia has a reasonable reputation as a producer of fine wine. Some areas are definitely very good and the SW of Western Australia has an excellent reputation for a distinct style of good, big, long lasting red wines among others.

Cape Mentelle is among the better producers.

I enjoy a good red and recently we indulged in an excellent drop from my own cellar. One that had been around for a while.

With a cool dry season evening [been quite a few recently] and a great steak a decent red wine sure adds to the enjoyment. And it is supposedly good for you too.

It was a great year - 1994!!
